Here's a couple of mine Sir Steve and co Steve winning his fifth and final gold medal at the Sydney Olympics. And Freddie showing great sportsmanship at the finish of an epic ashes match!

I used to rally an Opel Manta, it was fucking great!

I've always been a petrolhead motorsport addict

Nice.. a shame Rallying doesn't get much tv coverage anymore not that i've seen anyway. They used to show the world rally championships etc even the BBC had rallying at one point.

Best dam hockey game - best dam team event during those play offs - and Russia just was beyond belief that they'd got beaten by a 'MUTT TEAM'; Holy Bat Crap, it was sooooo righteous to watch and I nearly screamed myself into having no voice the next day! :canny:

If you can listen to Murray Walker's commentary without shedding a tear, it's because you're dead inside.

Might have said before but, if I ever win the lottery, I would love to build some kind of "ultimate" Manta.
Externally it'd be a replica of the 400 but I'd want to make it scary-fast by today's standards so I'd be looking at a V6 or V8 out of a Chevy/Holden, along with uprated brakes and suspension, of course.

Back in the day it seemed like everybody was a fan of the Mk2 Escort (in motorsport) but I always preferred the Manta.

The only other option would be a nice Stratos replica..... :wubwub:

A good watch though.

It's good to see a very mixed bag of sporting moments in this thread so far.

1992 Olympic Gold Basketball 'DREAM TEAM' ...something I sure wish I could have seen LIVE ~ while watching it from the comfort of my home wasn't shabby but longing to see these great players in action up front/close and live would have been the game of a life time!

All of my mates having Escorts was a big reason for getting a Manta. I started out night rallying with Alfasuds but the flat four would drain the sump if you went too sharp around a corner and understandably fucked the big ends. I bought a stripped to metal 1900, made it back into a car, sprayed it white and used it for night events and as my daily driver. While racing a 924 up Haldon Hill one day I blew the shit out of a cylinder which was annoying and Syd got put to bed. Meantime I had bought a Firenza (not droop snoot) 2300 that had been modified to hillclimb by a lunatic called Doug. I made some enquiries and got in touch with Gerry Johnson (former chief engineer of DTV) who now ran a tuning shop in Ely for Vauxhalls, turned out he'd done a 2300/Manta hybrid, fuck yeah!

I went to see him, bought a curly exhaust manifold, some HSR engine mounts and arranged a stage 4 cylinder head build with some sort of mental camshaft and ultra big valves, he gave me a handful of Polaroids of the one that he'd done for guidance on the build, engine was pretty sorted and it ran at just over 200 bhp on the rolling road (at the time the Cosworths were kicking out similar power). Caged it, bunged in some Corbeau's, a cage and some Cibies hanging off the front and took it through the forests :awesome:
