Glorious Glosters buried with honours

Three unknown soldiers of the ‘Glorious Glosters’ regiment who fought at the famous Battle of Imjin River 70 years ago are to be buried with full military honours at a national ceremony in South Korea on Armistice Day (Nov 11).

The South Kirean Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and other members of his Government will attend the burial with British Ambassador Simon Smith, UK Military Attaché Brigadier Michael Murdoch and MP Mike Freer, the UK Trade Minister.

"The remains of three unknown soldiers from 1st Battalion the Gloucestershire Regiment, who were killed in the battle of the Imjin River (22 Apr – 25 Apr 1951), will be buried at a formal ceremony to be broadcast live in Korea by the Korean Broadcasting Service," a Regimental spokesperson said todfay (Nov 9).

The battle of Imjin River ranks among the most impressive displays of duty and courage and is rightly the pride of the Gloucestershire Regiment to this day.

The respect of the Korean people was hard earned and remains greatly appreciated by the regiment.
