"Parky" passed away

Postby Grafenwalder » Thu Aug 17, 2023 3:00 pm

Sad to hear on the news this morning Sir Michael Parkinson passed away last night at home with his family 'after a short illness'. Aged 88 he did pretty well and left us with many memorable interviews of celebrities on his long running Parkinson show. Married 64 years too which is quite an achievement in that business!

:shake head: RIP. He had quite a career. He met and interviewed so many famous people. I don't think I'll miss his "over 50" saving plan adverts though!

According to wiki his career spanned seven decades. :kinell: That "over 50" savings plan was criticised by financial journalist Martin Lewis who said it was poor value.

I had the good fortune of meeting him once at Bray cricket club.
We’d finished our match and were in the clubhouse having beers, and there was team with a lot of celebs batting on the main pitch, George Best was batting and I got in conversation with him, not knowing who he was :kinell:
It only dawned on me when I went to look at all the photos adorning their walls and he was in photos with George and others.
Nice guy, very easy to talk to.

Do you mind pointing out the hilarious bits and I'll take another look.

Parky hardly says a word - haven't you got a better tribute clip?

A non-woke one if possible.

I loved the Parky shows.. so many wonderful interviews with wonderful people, my favourite was with Bette Davis.
He was the best, also he let the guests TALK!! Not like Jonathan Ross who likes his own voice. He listened to the gusts and let them share their stories.
Rest in Peace.. such a kind gentleman xxx

Great Guy.

Parkinson at 50 is on BBC1 at 9 (first aired 2021). He looks back over his 50yrs of broadcast and recalls his favourite encounters, I'm sure there will be more Ali.

There was a very touching interview with Dickie Bird this afternoon on LBC about his great friend who he spoke to only yesterday.

RIP.

Parkinson’s syndrome, from all the heavy blows to the head, killed his razor wit, and poetic mind and reduced him to a slurring mess.
Such a shame.

Parky remained Parky till the end. Such and easy conversationalist, he had me talking and I had no clue who he was.
I thought he was just a nice honest chatty Yorkshireman when I met him.
I feel a bit of a twat to this day not knowing who I was talking to.
