Unfit for purpose

I expect 30p Lee and Braverman will be seething at this latest news.

Asylum seekers moved off Bibby Stockholm barge after Legionella bacteria found

Legionella bacteria, which can cause a serious type of lung infection known as Legionnaires' disease, has been found in the water on the barge.

Asylum seekers are being removed from the Bibby Stockholm barge in Dorset after Legionella bacteria was found in the vessel's water system.

On Wednesday, Mr Jenrick described the barge as "perfectly decent accommodation" that was similar to that used by British oil and gas workers - despite earlier warnings from the Fire Brigades Union that the vessel was a "death trap".

But speaking to Sky News, Dr Bharat Pankhania, senior clinical lecturer at the University of Exeter, disputed Mr Jenrick's comparison.

Asked how common it was for the bacteria to be present, Dr Pankhania said: "They should not be present in a place like that and when Robert Jenrick says we house oil workers on similar barges, he is definitely not comparing like with like.

"When you accommodate oil workers...there wouldn't be 500. And when you have a large number of people accommodated you need better plumbing systems so the water temperature is maintained at the right temperature."

Dr Pankhania said the disease would most likely have spread through the showers used on the vessel.

It should work the same as it did with the oil workers. Extremely temporary only. One person to a room. Proper cleaning and maintainence. But no, that's just too 'luxurious" and welcoming.

What we're dealing with is incompetence by a government full of mouthy ministers with big opinions and bugger all talent, backed up by their friends in the media.

The government was warned it wasn't fit for human habitation but they didn't care.

Have this government actually got anything right?
When I say this government I mean since Cameron took over from Brown.

Graffs, ... more examples of  lawmakers being 'unfit for purpose.'

An MP secretively owned shares in SHELL - worth a cool £70K - while she was environment secretary, ironically.
When caught ( earlier this week) her response was to smile VERY sheepishly and plead ignorance of the law -
- and sweetly coo an apology -"ooops I'm sorry" . And that was the end of that.
Lesser mortals would have been strung up. But there ya go.

That’s not a bad idea, hire cruise liners and send them on holiday.
Hold on, many are scared of water and wouldn’t board a cruise ship.

Air Rwanda failed, legionnaire’s virus has sunk this barge, until all water systems are flushed out.
What’s next?

It would be cheaper to offer them a £100,000 each to return to their country of origin.
Although I doubt very much would want to leave Britain after all the trouble they endured to get here.

It was fine for the offshore oil and gas workers.

I thought it would be fine too, and one guy who walked off said he really liked it, but legionnaire’s disease is not to be taken lightly.
They need to flush the entire water system and ensure it’s safe before loading people on board it again.

Of course it was, they were valued, the asylum seekers didn't get the same standard of care.

Or they were trying it on.

Oh do please go and read up on the Coastell 3, it was exactly the same design, and housed 4 men per room.

Did they complain?

Did they fuck!

It was warm and dry, and was looked upon as a floating hotel.

British troops, 4 men to a room too, for 7 months or so on Falklands Tours.

Fucking luxury!!!

Just a thought! Why do we need Rwanda?

Can’t we send them to floating hotels in the Falkland Islands?

If Brits can handle it, then I’m sure all these people who want to live in Britain will be happy to living in “a part of Britain.”

That tight gene pool could do with some new dna, and people could work on farms, shearing ship etc, plus on rigs looking for oil and gas.

They could get a British passport, make loads of money, and then holiday where they wanted.

It sounds a better solution than this bollocks going on today.
