The referendums at gunpoint don’t really do Vlad any big favours, but he’s going to claim that any attacks on these “new parts of Russia” will be answered with major shows of force against the west.
He’s itching to launch tactical nukes in order to stifle Ukrainian gains, but he knows full well that this will meet with serious opposition at home and abroad.
Pouring more trained men into Ukraine would help, but this partial mobilisation clearly demonstrates Putin is under pressure right now.

I’m pretty sceptical these days regarding Russia and it’s ability to wage a conventional war, even with superior numbers because they’ve been badly beaten so many times in the past with superior numbers.
The Finns destroyed them, and so did the Krauts, the bombing of Helsinki and the Russian winter was their saviour in both those cases.
The sheer waste of their best trained troops and equipment at the commencement of hostilities was absolutely bizarre and showed piss poor planning and preparation. It was truly abysmal and they squandered their best troops in that abortive attack on Kiev. The mind boggles, men flown or driven into Ukraine with no idea where they were going, what the aim of the mission was, and with many not even knowing they were in Ukraine. Utter madness!
The guy in video must know they’re pulling obsolete tanks and APC’s out of storage to arm the latest recruits, but the facts show that when their most modern tanks, and armoured vehicles were destroyed with ease.
Their airforce can’t even gain air superiority against an airforce that’s tiny compared to their own.
WW2 Russian doctrine was just tho throw numbers at the enemy, nothing’s changed, they’re inept at both strategic and tactical level, so sheer weight of numbers is their only hope. It worked against the Nazis, and Moscow didn’t give a shit about casualty levels.
Vlad’s choice, hundreds of thousands of young Russians dying, or firing tactical nukes? Both might work but the world will suffer both ways.

It’s all kicking off in Russia with so many protests, and the inevitable arrests, in so many Russian cities.
As dissent grows, because of such actions, more and more ordinary Russians will become rebellious, and Vlad will become less and less popular.
Waging a war against his own people could cause some in the police, security services, and armed forces, to swap allegiances.
If that happens, Russia might see a few bloodbaths with Russians fighting their own brethren.
