UK weather forecast: Bookies predict 'coldest October ever' with possibility of snow
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/u ... t-20665132

They were saying the end of September would be freezing but it didn't happen .....
Coal and logs keeping me very warm right now.

Yeah! Global warming is a myth! Keep burning trees and coal :fire: Life in the sticks hey ? :WW:

On a serious note, is that all you use for hot water and central heating?

There is no mains gas here so I have fitted two 47kg bottles outside the kitchen for cooking.

That makes sense, but what about your hot water and central heating?

Shovel full of coal heats every room.
It's the most efficient form of household heating there is.

Takes me back to my early years, how do you heat water? Do you have a back boiler?

Yes plus an airing cupboard with immersion heater.
Thousands of homes here have no mains sewage no mains gas .... some still have no mains water but they are now dropping in numbers.
Some have no mains electricity too and more and more people are snapping those properties up.
The problem is the geology of the place.
I think it remains the only European country without a modern highway connecting its north to its south.
Lonely planet put the place in its top ten countries to visit before you die.

No.

Don't worry about the trees as the Welsh forests get bigger every year and that's with thousands of us burning them and in Chirk a massive chipboard factory called Kronospan that have been taking truck load after truck load for fifty years.

I doubt that, I think you are referring to non-native fast growing pines.

But as for proper welsh trees I googled and came across this which is quite interesting...

Interesting read.
Yes it's the pine forests that are bigger each year.
Very cleverly managed system.
The downside of pine forests is they are a more or less a sterile environment .... nothing lives in there!
The hardwood we burn comes from wind lightening old age etc and at the moment there is more than enough to go around.

In the article like many they talk of pine arriving after the last medium size ice age of around twelve thousand years ago as if it was unnatural to arrive here .... a none native species .... I always think that's a bit nonsensical.

Chelsea won at Ajax, great result! Alex Oxlade Chamberlain scored two and Liverpool look as though they will win with less than 20 minutes to go, but this Genk team are bloody good and Liverpool will have their work cut out in the game at Genk's home stadium. Oooer! What am I saying? Liverpool are away :gigglesnshit: It looked like a home game :smilin:

I do hope she is made to apologise and msybe stripped of her title.....

Doreen Lawrence says she has “no doubt” that racism was involved in the Grenfell Tower tragedy, saying: “Had that been a block full of white people in there, they would have done everything to get them out as fast as possible and make sure that they do what they needed to do.”

She said: “Nobody wanted to mention the word ‘race’ in the whole thing. Cos when I saw the residents who lived in that block, to me it was under no doubt around the racism that existed at that time.”
