Proclamation 6867

Proclamation 6867

Postby Maddog » Fri Jul 16, 2021 12:38 am

There's been a lot of talk recently about how Americans can help the people of Cuba who are suffering under the Castro regime.

What you may not know is that there are many Americans who are ready, willing and able to help Cubans, but the US government has been stopping them for 25 years.

There's been a lot of talk about ending the Cuba embargo, but that is nowhere near as important, or as easy, as simply revoking Proclamation 6867.

In 1996, Bill Clinton made Proclamation 6867, which is an executive order that declares a national emergency and bans private US boats from entering Cuban waters, and authorizes the US government to detain anyone who they suspect of intending to do so, and to seize their vessel and property.

The justification Proclamation 6867 was that was that Americans entering Cuban waters risked harm by Castro, and that their entry risked inflaming tensions between the US and Cuban governments.

As a result, Americans who want to directly provide food, medicine and support to Cubans risk federal arrest and prosecution, either when they attempt to enter or when they return.

The Cuban people are facing increasingly severe shortages of every single thing they need. They are also being increasingly brutalized by the Castro regime (yes I know Diaz-Canel is president, Raul still runs the show).

They need help.
Many Americans are ready to provide that help. Let them.

Americans are well aware of the risks. US-Cuban government relations are well past inflamed. People are dying, and there is no justification to continue denying them help from Americans who want to help them.

Bush, Obama and Trump modified and continued 6867 with 7757, 9398 and 9699. Biden can simply revoke them all.

Again, because this is an executive order, there is no need for any legislation or anything else. Biden can just revoke it.

With the stroke of a pen, Biden can let Americans bring direct aid to their friends, family and loved ones in Cuba.

Help the Cuban people.
Tell Joe Biden to #Revoke6867.

I see Trump is using this to continue scamming the gullible. IIRC he also slapped Cuba with more sanctions in a fit of pique before leaving office. Where were you then?

The sanctions aren't helping either. I opposed Trump expanding them when he did.

Or are you talking to Spike? In that case his anti Trump positions are quite clear and well documented..

In any event, do you 6867 should be revoked?

I'm opposed to sanctions, because they really didn't work, and it gave the socialists an excuse for the failure of a shitty system.

If your argument is that a socialist nation needs to trade with a capitalist nation to thrive, your argument for socialism is dumb.

Well, it appears their system sucks.

Have we seen this movie before?

But, should we repeal 6867 and let Americans bring aid to the Cubans who are right now in very dire straits?
