I had one once, it was dreadful.

I totally defeated a Mini racer on a hill climb a long time ago in my Manta

I went the GM route because of FoMoCo's insistence of cart springs for rear suspension. I had an Alfa Romeo Alfetata running a twin cam 40 side draught Webers as standard. Don't get me started about the inboard rear disk brakes or the fucking rear mounted gear box with a direct drive prop from the front clutch.

Fucking thing went like it's arse was on fire...

Went Datsun myself, bought a brand new 260z 2+2 (£3,600 - wow) and took it to Janspeed who turbo'ed it for a grand. Unbelievable grunt for 1981, 22O BHP, 0 - 60 in 6 seconds dead. Did 155 (indicated) racing an MGC on the M4, and she had plenty left.... Happy days, then we had kids.

Question is, how many car manufacturers will still be busy in the UK 5 years after Brexit ?

How many will be busy in Europe?

We're the number one market for German cars and an important one for French cars as well.

Jaguar is investing in the UK to produce the next generation of electric cars.

The whole market is transitioning to that and no-one really knows what's going to happen.

Grid going down today doesn't fill me with confidence though when there are going to be millions of people charging up their cars.

I see the magic money tree that the government insists doesn't exist is now going to provide billions of pounds for businesses that will be badly affected by Brexit.
This of course will be yet more wasted billions that get soaked up by those who least need it.

I don't think the European car plants will be worrying about selling to Britain right now as at some point massive restructuring of car plants and the business as a whole is needed and starting to happen.
A drop in demand which is happening anyway is the ideal time to change direction.

We will still buy Mercs, Audis etc - what's a couple of grand extra when you are paying £35k+ ? And many, if not most, are leasing on personal contract now anyway, you don't even own the car but no-one knows and it's still a status symbol.

No, the issue isn't who buys the cars - it's where the manufacturing jobs and the associated boosts to local economies end up. The big one is Nissan, Sunderland runs on Nissan in terms of jobs and supporting economy, if they shut it will be a salutary lesson to those who will finally learn that you have got what you voted for. Yes, car companies are reorganising, but Sunderland is well liked by Nissan as having an efficient (and cheap) workforce.

I'm sure new models for export to the EU would be built there, but an instant 10% cost rise (WTO tariff) and the likely disruption to their 'just in time' manufacturing, to say nothing of likely local disruptions over food / medicine shortages will make the Nissan move back to Japan inevitable.

They can then take advantage of the new Japan / EU free trade deal. And for Nissan, read Honda and Toyota.

And we are finally left with zero mass car manufacturing industry in the UK.

Now we're in the home stretch, the latest whinging is about 'delays', 'shortages' and 'rioting'. But suggest something to counteract that, ie the government hiring more staff and setting up extra checkpoints to help ease congestion, and this lot on here are completely stumped by it "Huh more staff - where will these people come from? To normal folk, the process is simply called 'hiring people' , yet it seems beyond the comprehension of some on here, who would rather wallow in a collective self-pity than look for solutions.

They don't even know what those stars represent.

Which is the Virgin Mary and the 12 tribes of Israel.

(It was designed by a Jew who converted to Catholicism).

:pmsl: :pmsl: Indeed.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the 12 tribes of Israel, and that's from the man who designed it, Arsene Heitz.

He told Lourdes magazine that his inspiration had been the reference in the Book of Revelation, the New Testament's final section, to "a woman clothed with the sun...and a crown of twelve stars on her head" - this was thought to be influenced by his deep Catholic conviction.

Mind, there are some cracking myths about it - I know someone who would be wetting themselves at the amount of C+P available...

Originally the design of the flag had 15 stars but Germany vetoed it - yes, that Germany. :pmsl:
