There's comments about it in the Arms, Random stuff thread.

Result of accident during renovation work according to Paris Police.

There's a very worried insurance company somewhere tonight.

What a devastating loss of history...especially to Paris :bawlin:
I hope they can at least save some of the irreplaceable art work.

The following vid is borrowed from the earlier threads in the Arms and it shows fir ove a huge area .... almost three distinct fires.
What kind of accident would have could have caused this I wonder.
Sabotage .... yellow vests and petrol?
Easter upon us which is a massively important time for this cathedral so the timing couldn't be better if you wanted to do this kind of thing .... if it's a plumber and his falling blow lamp I'd suggest that plumber leaves town quick.

Or a simpler answer like some error by the workmen as it was going through a restoration, hence the scaffolding.

It’s a beautiful gothic building, the spire and roof have been destroyed but can be replaced. At least there was no loss of life.

Yes they were able to rescue quite a bit but a lot has also perished, it's heart breaking...at least they were able to save "Jesus Christ's crown of thorns"

I definitely wouldn't want to be the person/s responsible for this :ooer:

You understand the word 'renovation' Art ?

It's there for the same reason as the scaffolding around Westminster Clock Tower. And some artifacts were removed for the same reason.

Apparently they didn't need asking. Over 600 million euros already poured in with much from wealthy French families and businesses. French are very devout RC so i'm surprised the Vatican have had nothing to say. Arson has been ruled out by the fire dept and is now looking increasingly likely to have been caused by onsite renovations. Hope none of the guys were having a crafty fag - but then it is France!
