North and South Korea agree to form their first joint Olympic team and march together in opening ceremony

North and South Korea have agreed to form their first joint Olympic team and will march together under a unified flag during the opening ceremony, South Korea has announced.

The two Koreas agreed to form a combined women's ice hockey team to take part in next month's Winter Olympics in PyeongChang in the South next month.

Seoul's Unification Ministry says the agreement was during talks on Wednesday at the border village of Panmunjom.

It said athletes from the two Koreas will march together under a 'unification flag' depicting their peninsula during the opening ceremony.

Good for them.

It's only the US keeping them at odds with each other using South Korea as a vassal state, as they do with Japan. Let's hope negotiations continue between the two and thaad is completely removed rather than just halted.

It's only Because President Trump has stood up to The little madman and refused to give in to his threats that little kim is now desperate.
Before Trump came along past Presidents just threw billions in aide at NK, Hoping to keep them quiet. Do you think South Korea don't want America there?
I'm sure they could say leave at any time but what then?
The threat of America actually forces peace, and you' have to be an idiot if you can't work that out.

That's not how the US operates. Hegemony doesn't come by not having your foot in the door, and on the throat, of your vassal states.

It's got very little to do with Trump. Who has North Korea bombed, invaded or which regime changes have they been involved in?

Look what happens to countries without the ability to protect themselves, Libya, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, nearly Syria but Russia has nukes too and they stepped in.

You seem unhappy with better relations being developed between the North and the South. Why?

America cannot handle the possibility of peace breaking out.
They have planned for a long time for the destruction of the North.
Peace breaking out could be very dangerous.

And S. Korean team is not very happy. They believe they are medal contenders, and playing the N. Koreans will hurt their chances. If the N. Koreans remain on the bench, what's the point?

The Iran Protest Movement and the History of US Intervention

One could be forgiven for assuming President Trump desires a return to the days when the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, ruled Iran (1953-1979). The Shah’s arrival was made possible by a US/UK intervention, with the murderous dictator being backed to the end by his foreign masters. He was finally overthrown by popular resistance almost four decades ago, a “loss” the US in particular have never forgotten.

During his reign, the Shah compiled “one of the worst human rights records in the world”. The suffering of “the great Iranian people” during 26 years of dictatorship was of little importance. The principal concern was that Iran’s monumental oil reserves remained out of reach of her citizens, and under Western control.

Trump himself, at age 71, is old enough to recall the Shah’s rule. However, it seems the US president is suffering from a case of historical amnesia, when expressing America’s new-found concern for the Iranian nation. He is hardly alone in that respect.

The current “repression” Iran’s people are enduring cannot begin to compare with the experiences of older generations. They are unlikely to have forgotten what true suppression involves.

It could be reasonably argued the US has almost unremittingly interfered in Iranian affairs from 1953 until the present day. This can be traced through either direct American intervention, support of Saddam Hussein in the bloody Iran-Iraq War (1980-88), sanctions, threats, and so on.

As a result of Iran’s tortured history, one could forgive President Rouhani for pinning much of the blame for the protests on his Western “enemies”.

I disagree with it most of the time.

We should bring everyone home and let the shithole countries go at like they did in the past. Or let the Europeans deal with it.

You mean like Syria could still be a prosperous trading nation?
A million Iraqis could still be alive and three million crippled people could still be walking and working?
Libya could still be one of the wealthiest populations ever seen on the face of this planet?
The Shah of Iran could never have tortured and killed all those people .... people being kept from the oil wealth?
All those hundreds of thousands of buildings farms road bridges etc would still be standing?
The estimated twenty to forty million civilians America have mutilated and killed since the end of WW2 would never have died?
That kind of stop interfering?
