Smacking To Be Made Illegal In Scotland.

Smacking children is to be banned in Scotland, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

The move would make the country the first part of the UK to outlaw physical punishment of children.

Personally i think the Scottish Government needs to but out on how parents punish their children.

A skelp on the arse is sometimes the last resort for some parents and it does not equal a beating as some people claim.

How about the Scottish Government start running the country, instead of passing a law on smacking.

We've got debt coming out our earholes for a start.

Children don't need to be smacked to be taught how to behave.
If this makes people think twice and feel guilty about doing it then it's a good thing.
I don't think it needs enforcing, like the wolf whistling debate, but if it goes too far or on too many occasions then the authorities do have to step in.

In fact worse than the odd smack are parents who constantly shout at their kids.

Both my parents skelpt me when i was a child, it didn't lead to years of counselling.

My Granny on the other hand used to knock the daylights out of her children with anything she could get her hands on.

She battered my dad once with a carpet sweeper and kicked one of his sisters, because she broke a bottle of milk.

My Grandmother wasn't a nice woman, no wonder no tears were shed at her funeral.

if people can't raise their kids without raising a hand to them, they need to think twice before they have any. i don't see any problem with the scottish ban. how many kids turn into little angels after just 1 smack?

She probably did what she'd learnt growing up.

I'm all for a kinder society that frowns upon violence towards anyone.

But you did struggle with alcohol for a while, maybe it was the underlying causal effect.

I don't think any one should hit a small vulnerable child, you should be able to reason with them. It starts from birth, love and time spent talking to children, clearly explaining any issues they may have and giving them plenty of scope to learn is all it should take

You only have to hit a kid once when it hadn't done anything wrong to start a thread of resentment and bitterness in that child.

Saying 'It never did me any harm' is similar to the 90 year old saying he has smoked all his life and still alive - it conveniently ignores the millions who died from smoking...

There are perfectly adequate punishments for children without losing control and raising your hand to them.

If you need to hit a child to get them to do what you want then there is something wrong with you not them.

By hitting them you are admitting that you have been outsmarted by a child.

Just shove some haggis in their mouths and make them swallow the crap. That has to be far more effective than smacking their ass. :doomed:
