This represents the latest attempt, and there have been many by governments of all colours and persuasions, to get British industry the pick up the tab for training the next generation of British engineers, tradesmen and craftsmen - something we stopped doing under Mrs Thatcher.
Are Advanced Learning loans - which replaced government funded training at the start of this month - the way forward or will this be yet another nail in the coffin of British industry and commerce?
