The Prime Minister’s aides ensured Mr Cameron fronted the cameras without a view of palm trees, sandy beaches and the ocean behind it.
Mr Cameron gave the interviews at one of the world's most sought after beach resorts, Los Cabos, at the tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.
Downing Street sources dismissed suggestions it was an attempt to hide the spectacular backdrop at the resort as part of its “spin” operation.
But journalists travelling with the Prime Minister disclosed details on the public relations exercise.
Nick Robinson, the BBC’s political editor, posted on Twitter: “What spin doctors do. This is the view from the room where the PM will do TV clips – not what you'll see ...”
He then posted a picture of a stunning view of the resort and the beach.
He then tweeted to more than 88,000 followers: “This is what you’ll see” before posting another picture of a navy blue backdrop complete with a diamond logo and the phrase “B2012 Los Cabos, Mexico”.
