Not sure "benefits" is a reasonable barometer of anything.
After all, the vast majority of immigrants probably
aren't refugees from Iraq/Syria/Uganda who're here for the hand-outs. They're just people who realise that they can earn more for working in the UK than they will get for doing the same job in Poland or Slovakia etc.
If we raise our expectations slightly, we should be asking ourselves what these people actually add anything to society that couldn't be supplied by a Brit' who's already here.
That's shouldn't be seen as a reflection on the people, themselves of course.
It's just that we shouldn't be allowing employers to get away with hiring cheap, often poorly-qualified, workers.
It might be argued that this allows employers to keep prices low but, then again, if there were fewer immigrants there'd be more jobs, less people on benefits and taxes could be lowered to offset higher prices.
