George Monbiot's column of 26 January about Positive Weather Solutions (PWS) is well worth reading.

PWS had become favoured weather forecasters by certain tabloid newspapers - both the Mail and Express were quoting them up to a couple of weeks ago. As Monbiot wrote on 2 January:

PWS boasts that it "has made the front page of the Daily Express thirteen times; the Daily Telegraph seven times; and the Daily Mail and the Sun once". Between 26 September and 1 October, it says, it "was quoted every single day in the Daily Express".

In the earlier column, he talked about both PWS and another minor outfit, Exacta (source of the Express' '-20C to hit us in weeks' front page headline), and noted that the scorn poured on inaccurate Met Office forecasts by the tabloids was not repeated when these other forecasters got it wrong:

Unlike the Met Office, the alternative forecasters are neither roasted nor frozen out when they get it wrong. In 2010, for example, the Daily Mail announced that "the country really is on course for a barbecue summer". This time, it told its readers, the prediction "comes from a forecaster with a somewhat better record on the subject than the poor old Met Office". This was PWS – which has no published record at all. PWS told the Mail that "there will be stifling temperatures, making it possibly the warmest UK summer on record". In fact it was an unremarkable summer, but there were no "red faces" at PWS.

Yet it turned out that many of the 'staff photos' on the PWS website were stock pictures taken from elsewhere. When Monbiot asked PWS chief Jonathan Powell if he could speak to a couple of these other forecasters, Powell hesitated. Two hours later, he told Monbiot:

"Quite frankly, the filing system I have is a mess and I cannot put my hands of the information you require … Your column which was understandably critical of us at Christmas made me face a few things about the company and where it was going, and now as I can't find anything to back anyone up then quite frankly PWS is now more trouble than its worth and in debt. Therefore, I have taken the decision after six years to close the business forthwith."

These were not questions the tabloids that so favoured using PWS bothered to ask. And, for once, this is one PWS quote that the tabloids haven't bothered to repeat.

I recal hearing about meteoroligist studying the the earths procession through areas where CMEs passed. The data as i recal, reveled very accurate annual weather forecasts! And there wass other predictions that where highly accurate. Can't recal who the people are, and haven't heard anything about it since. :( at that time i was not collecting referance material.

Don't worry! It is of little concern...

More fresh water in the artic, lower salinity of the north atlantic! Lower salinity will shut down the gulf stream -50C could happen within hours of the stream shutting down! All that soot and ice breakers are doing an exelent job of reducing the annual artic ice pack!

Solar luminosity has no mesurable effect on climate temperatures! Fact! There is an 11-13 year cycle of higher and lower solar activity. The sun enterd it higher activity phase last year!

One clear piece of evidenc is far higher rates of evaporation mesured in some places where solar radiation can reach the ground where there is little or no atmospheric interferince from con trails! This is an annomoly that requires explination and as yet i have not heard of an explination in a period of 5-8 years!

Increases in atmospheric preasure will have an effect on rate of evoporation. Even where there is low levels of solar radiation reaching earth. Taking into account life prefers a cooler climate, it stands to reason the earth will cool down to promote a greater rate of biodiversity. There by providing the earth with a food source for future need!

of course the conman is writing a new book
anyone who buys it is a fucking mug
:hand:

World temperatures have remained almost stagnant in the last two decades, new figures have revealed.
Temperatures across the globe rose by around a third of a degree last year from the average of 14 degrees Celsius recorded between 1961 and 1990.
In some years, temperatures rose by just 0.29 degrees C while in others they rose by .53 degrees.
The findings come as consumers feel the full force of a raft of environment policies introduced by the coalition and the previous Labour government in the name of climate change.
By 2030, ‘green’ policy burdens could cost families an extra £267 a year and have already raised current energy bills by £78 annually.
The figures on global temperatures were published by Environment Minister Gregory Barker in a parliamentary answer to Tory MP Anne Main.
Mrs Main said it raised questions about whether vulnerable people should be made to make the choice between heating and eating.
The figures were unveiled as an environmental guru and maverick scientist admitted that he may have been ‘alarmist’ about climate change.
James Lovelock, who warned that billions would die before the end of this century and only the Arctic would be fit for human habitation, said: ‘The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened.’
The 92-year-old told MSNBC in America: ‘The climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now. The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising.’
The scientist is writing a new book in which he will say climate change is still happening, but not as quickly as he once feared.
‘It will be the third in a series and follows on from his best-selling: Revenge of Gaia: Why the Earth Is Fighting Back – and How We Can Still Save Humanity, and The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning: Enjoy It While You Can.

Actually 1998 was the hottest year, what they said is that current temperatue is back to 1997 level. As Verum pointed out they said other aspects have negated the rising over the past decade but that doesnt mean global warming isnt still a threat. Here is the data

then theres what Professor Peter Huybers is saying

In a paper published in the journal Nature, Huybers points out that the way in which the Earth’s axis of rotation spins controls our climate. The process involves two cycles, one lasting about 10,000 years, the other roughly 40,000 years.

When the two cycles align ‘correctly’, the glaciers retreat rapidly, says Huybers. At the other extreme, glaciers advance.
