There's a further surge in covid rates at the moment. Fortuanately not resulting in many hospitalisations but there are school closures due as it's especially rampant in schools and of course other absenteeism.

There are more lorries stuck on the motorway than every before reducing capacity even further.

The actions of the NI Executive are certain to bring retalitory measures from the EU and from the USA that will futher restrict the availability of goods in the UK.

That will mean fewer goods in the shops and higher inflation for the consumer.

Add to that, some food is transported by rail. Not all goes by road. Estimated only 60% will get through this week with the rail strikes. Food and fuel for power stations will take priority over commuters though.
I don't see many food shortages though. In America at present it's nappies (diapers) and tampons.

An American highway in Colorado, those mountains must be the Rockies

I'm being very unfair with that picture. I've driven in America and in some places the standards are the roads are absolutely shocking, much worse than in some third world countries, and I wouldn't trust walking over the some the bridges they have eighteen wheelers rumbling across all day. Given the choice I would sooner drive a truck on a well maintained road in Cornwall than a bridge that's literally falling apart as you drive over it in Oklahoma.

I'm being serious because the hundred thousand truck driver shortage cannot be fixed In a few weeks or even months.
Maddog can you send us a hundred thousand truck drivers promptly?

I doubt any US truckers could handle our roads though - we have bends and corners and they're only used to driving straights. :gigglesnshit:

Cool pictures of places mostly outside of the UK.

Know how many fourteeners there are in Colorado alone?

Ever hear of the Rocky Mountains?

And not one truck in any of the pictures. Are you saying British Truck drivers can't handle those roads? :dunno:

I saw two bicyclists in one of the pictures. Do you think they're French Onion Sellers maybe?

Maj you can't be serious.
How many transit vans do you think it would take to keep a large Tesco up and running?
All the European drivers have left. The busy port of Holyhead is dying because Irish trucks now use other ferry services direct to France Italy Spain no UK drivers involved hardly.
No test centres examiners or trainers available in their hundreds. We need hundreds just to get new drivers up to scratch where will we get them before Xmas?

You've obviously never been down a county lane.

At least most of yours are paved.

Grafs comment was funny if he's just taking the piss. If he's serious, he's clueless. No doubt driving down our Interstates is pretty damn easy.

Trucks don't get the luxury of doing that though. Someone has to get up to Leadville, Colorado in February where the elevation is over 10,000 feet and the mountain passes are higher than that.

Well if these food shortage threats take hold they will all be glad of their boiled potatoes.
